Step 2: Go to the overhead menu and select Effect > Document Raster Effect Settings. Step 1: Place and embed your image in Adobe Illustrator. Usually, the resolution of screen images is 72 ppi, you can change it to 300 ppi to enhance the image quality. Method 1: Change ResolutionĪs I briefly mentioned above, when you sharpen an image, it enhances the image quality, so changing the resolution of your image is one way to do it. Windows or other versions can look different. Note: all screenshots are taken from Adobe Illustrator CC 2022 Mac version. The minimum requirement, let’s say, when you zoom in to 100%, the image shouldn’t be pixelated. ![]() ![]() Important note: for the best result, the image you want to sharpen should be a high-quality image. Try the image trace option if you’re sharpening a vector image, and try to change the resolution if image quality is your concern. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to sharpen an image using Image Trace and changing resolution. If Adobe Illustrator is the only option, depending on your image, you might not get exactly what you want. By accessing the Type Tool and setting the Anti-Aliasing to Smooth in the upper settings bar, your text will have a more crisp edge. Anti-Aliasing smooths the blocky edges of text to create a crisp edge. A common reason for pixelated text in Photoshop is an incorrect Anti-Aliasing setting. It took me hours to research and come up with a couple of imperfect solutions that can be helpful for what you’re looking for. Fortunately there are some easy ways to fix this problem. The best and easiest way to sharpen an image is doing it in Photoshop, but I understand that not everyone uses Photoshop. Sharpening an image means increasing an image’s quality by enhancing the definition of an image’s edges, and that’s NOT what Adobe Illustrator does! Some of them fitted well into the existing blur and the best result was somewhere between Photoshop's sharpening and what's got with Smilla enlargener. Not going to lie, I didn’t know the answer to this question. Krita and GIMP (freeware) can use G'MIC filter package as a free add-on. This is in Photoshop, but the edges have clearly got something which is typical for sharpening. Smart sharpen again with the same setting as in the first time.Noise > Median, radius 1 px to reduce some lifted noise.Sharpen > Smart sharpen > Lens Blur, radius = 1 px. ![]() The right half has got in Photoshop 3 filterings: In the next image the right half is aggressively sharpened and the left half is the original: I guess a part of the usharpness was blur which is caused by something else than low resolution. Several commercial image enlargening programs are available as Photoshop plugins, but as said, Smilla is free.ĪDD: The enlargened half of my screenshot still looks sharp although it is scaled down to the same size as the original image half. The only harm is that it's not Photoshop. The pixel dimensions are lifted to 500% (=2500x2500) and the enlargening preset "painting" was used.Ībout the result: The program hasn't removed colored areas, there's no new flat colored zones at the fuzzy borders and the geometric forms of the borders look quite the same as in the original. The left half of the image is your original, the right half is enlargened with Smilla (freeware). It increases the pixel resolution - not like image resize in Photoshop, but trying to guess where should be a sharp border or a thin line. ![]() The third way is to use an image enlargening program.
